Bead chain and beading chain are different terms. Bead chain uses spherical link elements joined by connectors; beading chain is a slender chain intended to let beads be strung onto it. A finished necklace with round beads is not automatically either construction. Inspect the connections and read how the seller describes the piece.

Read the construction, not just the round outline
Rio Grande's jewelry-chain guide distinguishes spherical bead links joined by narrow connectors from slender, elongated-link beading chain. The second term concerns a chain that can pass through beads. These are general construction definitions, not verified manufacturing details for every necklace called ball, bead or pearl.
A round element may be the visible link, a decoration over another support, or a separate bead. A front photograph can hide the connection. Ask for a close-up and a construction description when that distinction matters; do not assume a hollow or solid interior, a thread, wire, or removable bead from the outer shape.
Two current necklaces share a look, not every fact
The Miles 6mm iced bead necklace describes a round-bead design with Cubic Zirconia. Its current options are Silver or Gold with 18in, 20in, 22in or 24in lengths. The separate iced moissanite bead necklace identifies 925 Sterling Silver and Moissanite, with 4mm, 8mm or 10mm widths and lengths from 16in to 26in.
Neither a bead nickname nor a pearl-like round silhouette transfers those facts between the two products. The first listing's stone field identifies CZ, rather than a cultured pearl. These finished necklaces are visual examples; their names alone do not prove that they are loose-bead stringing supplies or that you can remove and rearrange their elements.
A useful lesson about learning chain names
In GQ's July 23, 2021 interview, Yungeen Ace distinguishes tennis and Cuban chains and recalls not knowing chain names earlier. The practical lesson is to learn structure alongside appearance. That example does not identify his jewelry as bead chain or establish a Miles construction.
An illustrative concert comparison
Imagine choosing a necklace for a concert outfit because you like a repeated rounded silhouette. Compare a whole-necklace photograph with a close view of the joins, then read the separate stone and material fields. If you are instead buying components to string your own beads, ask whether the chain is designed for that purpose. The practical distinction is a finished piece you intend to wear versus a construction suited to a making project; similar names do not guarantee interchangeability.
Frequently asked questions
Does bead chain mean a pearl necklace?
No. Bead describes an element or appearance. Pearl is a material that requires its own disclosure.
Can I string beads onto any bead necklace?
Do not assume it. Confirm the intended construction, openings and instructions instead of forcing beads over connectors or clasps.
Does a round-link name identify the stone?
No. Read the product's separate stone field.
